Sheriff Fred J. Abdalla

Jefferson County Sheriff

Proudly serving Jefferson County for more than 32 years, Sheriff Fred J. Abdalla has worked closely with neighboring law enforcement agencies to help reduce crime throughout the Ohio Valley. Sheriff Abdalla has completed extensive training and education in law enforcement, and together with his deputy sheriffs and staff, remains dedicated to serving the citizens of Jefferson County.


Education and Public Service

  • Graduate of Catholic Central High School
  • Attended The Ohio State University
  • Attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy
  • Coroner’s Investigator for 3 years
  • Mayor of the Village of Stratton for 13 years
  • Judge in Mayor’s Court for 13 years
  • Sheriff of Jefferson County for 32 years

Sheriff Abdalla is also a United States Army veteran and served two years in Vietnam. During his military service, he received numerous awards, including:

  • National Defense Service Medal
  • Vietnam Service Medal
  • Bronze Star Medal
  • Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device
  • Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation (authorized)

In addition to his law enforcement career, Sheriff Abdalla is a strong advocate for community and charitable programs. He has received multiple community awards and continues to support initiatives that benefit local families, including:


  • Community Service Award from the Salvation Army
  • Community Service Award from First Choice Federal Credit Union
  • Sheriff’s Reserves Fundraisers to assist less fortunate citizens
  • Supporter of Toys for Tots since 1970
